Thirsk, north of York is the village of "Darrowby" where James Herriot practised, and is now home to a unique tribute to the vet and author. The attraction "The World of James Herriot" is based in the original home and surgery of the vet at 23 Kirkgate, and combines technology with history, nostalgia, science and education. You can see Herriot's sitting room, with its original fireplace, the dining room, office, dispensary and kitchen - as well as the old Austin 7 car used in the series. There's also the chance to step into any of three tv studio sets and "star" in your very own scene!
